lesson plan using situating tool

Name: Nihal Rai, Nima Zangmo and  Sangay Choezom

Course: Bachelor in primary Education.
Class: VI                                                                  Date: 02/07/18
Time: 45 minutes.                                              Subject: Science
Topic: Relation between gravity and mass
Teaching skill/s in focus: IPC
Teaching/ Learning Materials: Situating tool ( video)
Lesson objectives:
By the end of the lesson, each student will be able to;
1.      define the concept of mass correctly after teacher’s explanation.
2.      define the concept of gravity precisely after teacher’s demonstration.
3.      tell the relationship between the mass and the gravity clearly after the activity.
4.      interpret the video by manipulating the variables appropriately after the activity.

INTRODUCTION (7minutes)
C:\Users\admin\Desktop\isaacnewton-smartphonet.jpgExchange of greetings.
Teacher: “Have you seen this man before?

Student: “No teacher.”

Teacher: “What do you see in the picture?”

Student: “Apples are falling down and some on his head.”

Teacher: Why do you think the apples are falling down and not flying up?

Student: “No idea teacher.
Teacher: “The apples are falling down because of the gravity and the man you saw in the
picture is the one who discovered gravity. So, today, we will be learning about gravity.
LESSON DEVELOPMENT
Gaining attention: Are you ready? Yes, yes, yes, yes.

General instruction: Firstly, I will introduce the concept. Then based on the lesson input,
I will provide with an activities. Next, I will do a follow up to check the degree of their
understanding. Finally I will close the lesson by summarizing the lesson.

Lesson input:

Gravity is the force of attraction between two objects.

The apples fell on the ground because of the force of attraction between the earth and the
apples.
Teacher: “Watch! When I drop a paper and a stone from the same level at the same point,
which object will land on the ground first?”
Student: “Stone because it is heavier than the paper.”
Teacher: “Exactly! The stone is heavy because it has more mass than the paper.
What is mass now?
Mass is the  matter content of a body. It is the amount of particles containing in an object.
For example; the stone has more compact particles compared to the paper.
Similarly, even in our solar system, there is gravitational pull that keeps our earth and other
planets around the sun.  Now we will do an activity using the solar system situating tool.

ACTIVITIES AND LESSON MONITORING
Activity name: [Interpreting simulation video]

Activity instruction:
I will divide you all into groups of four.
  1. Turn on the computer and open the video named “” which is saved on the desktop.
  2. In your group, you will have to interpret the video.
  3. As you open the video, select the one with sun and earth.
  4. Turn on the gravity and play it for 1 minute.
6. In the video, you just need to manipulate with the tab called “Star Mass” by
first reducing the mass of the sun slowly.
7.Now, increase the mass of the sun slowly and observe what happens.
8.Discuss with the group members the relation you noticed between gravity and the mass.
9.For this activity, you will get 10 minutes.

Checking of instruction:
Teacher: “What you need to do?”
Student: “We have to discuss and interpret the video.”
Teacher: “How long will you work?”
Student: “10 minutes.”
Teacher: “What relation are you supposed to find out?”
Student: Relation between Gravity and mass.

Monitoring: I will go around and see whether they could do correctly or not. If not,
then I will prompt and help them to carry out an activity.

Extended learning activity:
I will ask the group to find the relation between velocity and mass.

FOLLOW UP OF ACTIVITY (IES)

I will ask each group to present their findings. If they have wrong or incorrect interpretations,
I will
supplement.

LESSON CLOSURE (6 minutes)

Teacher:What is gravity?
Student: Gravity is the force of attraction between two objects.

Teacher: What is the relation between the mass and the gravity?
Student: As the mass of the sun increased the gravity also increased.

Teacher: What happens when the mass of the object increases?
Student:  The gravity increases.

Teacher: What happens when the size of the mass decreases?
Student: The gravity increases.

Google Doc.

Google Docs allows more than one person to work on a particular document at the same time
We can create and edit text documents right in our browser—no dedicated software required. Multiple people can work at the same time, and every change is saved automatically. We can develop and/or edit documents online, while working with others. Group members no longer have to wait for other group members to update their portion or make change to their work.  We don’t have to be concerned about using different software because there is no software to download. All of the content is saved to the cloud, which is an easy way of referring to secure servers at remote locations accessed through the Internet. That means that saved content can be accessed from any computer or Internet-enabled device from anywhere in the world.
For teacher like us we can easily create class documents and lesson plans from home, save them to the cloud, and then access them from the classroom when needed. The documents require a password, so only the teacher controls who can view the documents at any given time.  The teachers can also collaborate and come up with the lessons. They can view and comment on the works and edit the works.
Experience on working with google doc.
After having introduced to google doc by our lecturer my friend Sangay invited me through mail to work on the lesson plan collaboratively along with another friend Nima Zangmo. Three of us choose a topic and then decide to work on the topic Gravity. While working with the lesson plan we need not had to come along and meet to work rather we just opened the google doc as and when we got time and did the work collaboratively. If we felt that if there was any mistake or suggestion on different aspects of the plans we just commented and made sure there were changes. This is how we came up with lesson plan collaboratively without having to come along and work. I feel that this application is very helpful for teacher like us to work collaboratively so that we can come up with good lesson in order to have effective teaching and learning, Moreover we can also save our  time and save our works in cloud so that we can access it easily.
